HRH Prince George of Cambridge HRH Prince George of Cambridge

HRH Prince George of CambridgeIt’s a boy! The Royal baby, George Alexander Louis, born to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, has the title of HRH Prince of Cambridge, following a royal decree earlier this year, issued by the Queen allowing this royal baby -- and all of William and Kate's children, to be titled prince or princess. The decree said "that all the children of the eldest son of the Prince of Wales should have and enjoy the style, title and attribute of royal highness with the titular dignity of Prince or Princess prefixed to their Christian names or with such other titles of honour."

The new baby was widely expected to be a princess following the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in 2011, where the 16 heads of government agreed unanimously that laws governing the succession would be changed. First, males would no longer take precedence in the order of succession over their older sisters. This change will not, however, apply retroactively to people born before October 2011. The Succession to the Crown Act 2013 is an Act of the Parliament of the United Kingdom having the long title "An act to make succession to the Crown not depend on gender, to make provision about Royal Marriages, and for connected purposes". When brought into effect it will alter the laws of succession to the British throne.

Third in line to the British throne, the baby was born on 22 July 2013 at St Mary's Hospital in Paddington, London, the same hospital where Prince William was born in 1982.The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are part of a new generation of royal parents determined to balance their royal duties with a close relationship with their child. Their solution to balancing royal duties and home life is a hands-on approach to parenting with help from part time nannies and involved grandparents only when needed.

With the popularity for royal family riding high in Britain and overseas after the Royal wedding, last year's Diamond Jubilee celebrating Queen Elizabeth's 60 year reign, and the following Coronation anniversary, retailers are cashing in on the new arrival. The Royal birth has generated an estimated 243 million spending spree over the next two months as people purchase souvenirs to commemorate the birth of the heir to the throne.

The Pitcairn Islands Philatelic Bureau is proud to commemorate the royal birth, congratulates the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge and wishes them well in future parenthood.
